11.00 – 12.00 Conference opening

14.00 – 16.30 Round table discussion – "National platform of e – publishing development"
The aim of the round table is to discuss, specify and determine the need for a national platform of development of e-publishing, actualization of the possibility of consensus among superior bodies for it's implementation, and to try and find the answers to a series of questions. Questions such as, does a small market need a national platform, is the platform a good place for the promotion of e-books and e-libraries within national context, can such a platform help the promotion of Croatia in international context, how is it reflected on Croatia's position within a unique European digital market, etc.
Moderator: doc. dr. sc. Nives Tomašević, Department of Information Sciences of University in Zadar

17.00 – 20.00 Topic 1: Value of Content
Lately there has been much attention in discussions aimed at "kingdom of content", but the expression of content is no longer the expression of the same extent, reach and – content, as it was during the times of "traditional" publishing, when it was expected for the publisher to be a warrantor of the quality of print content. Within modern discussion the content is capital, but not so much symbolic or intellectual, as much as financial – thanks to the new technologies and efficient models of management, content may be revitalized and sold again, or delivered in various forms, on different platforms and repeatedly sold. Thematic unit searches for answers on questions of value of publishing contents on small markets. Are the approaches and content management projects developed in large markets applicable in small – language environments? Can publishers who work with small languages increase their incomes and advance their business by revitalising their content? What is the value of their content, considering the market?

9.00 – 12.00 Topic 2: Successful business models in electronic publishing – new contents and revitalization of old contents, platforms for distribution of publishing contents
Continuing from where the previous topic left off, the goal of this segment is to actualize the reluctancy of publishers in small markets to accept and develop new business models, especially those that deal with electronic publishing. According to the research that was done in spring this year, on larger Croatian platforms for distribution of e – books, there is only around 1200 titles avalible (http://projectebooks.wordpress.com/2013/02/28/an-overview-of-e-book-market-in-croatia/). Can the publishers in small markets use their own capacities to develop competitive forms of e-publishing, or should they continue with businesses of procurement and editing content, and for distribution rely on the services of other, specialized companies? In what way should the ownership over content be legally managed in circumstances where the publishing chain is being spread on more and more links, and where the ratios of contributing to content values are changing? How suitable for revitalization are contents in various publishing areas? Possible answers on these questions represent also the modern international and national models that mirror the possibilities of business in large and small markets (Pearson, Fisher Verlag, Naklada Bulaja, TookBook, besplatneknjige, etc).

13.00 – 16.00 Topic 3: The Role of Literary Agents in Management of Publishing Content
In large markets, especially in the United States and Great Britain, after the 1960s, the role of literary agents is growing stronger. The possibility of using rights associated with a certain work are also on the rise, for the same content is used in books, films, video – games, etc, and the sales fo rights, and by that, the managing of the content associated with the rights, are taken over by agents. John B. Thompson (2010: 73) states the claim of the editor from New York according to which only 3 – 5% of the published manuscripts arrives without an agent. Agents make the process to the publishers easier, by implementing routines of negotiations and contracts, and agents with authors often work in a manner how the editors used to work – the inital process of evaluating the manuscript has been left to them, and sometimes the editing itself. In opposition to this, the role of agents in small markets is modest, sometimes negligible, and it is often reduced to promoting authors in large markets. Is the more limited offer of manuscripts and contents in general the reason for such a state? Can it be expected that, at least in part, agents will replace the editors in the smaller markets, as well? How do the agents change the structure of the publishing business and can they affect the value of content in small markets?
