THEME: Island-Ghetto-Asylum
PULA, Croatia, December, 3 - 13, 2015th

Fellowship program - Book Folks / Kumpanija od libra 2015

International Professional Meetings

This year’s international fellowship programme entitled Book Folks / Kumpanija od libra, as part of the Pula Festival of books and authors, will take place from 5th to 7th December 2015. The programme will be held during the 21st Book Fair(y) in Istria, under the main theme Island – Ghetto – Asylum and will be held from 3rd to 13th December 2015. The complexity of this theme will deal with the phenomenon of Island as a utopian place and paradigm of poetic and literary space. Besides listening to the current events that are taking place in today’s world, this Book Fair will very intensively take part in the discussion that follows all the problems of modern society, such as the freedom of speech and freedom of thoughts and expressions. The programme will continue the focus on comics and graphic novels that started last year, particularly stressing its role in the liberty of creations. The Fair will reassemble the finest talents from Croatia, as well as foreign authors, comics authors, scientist and culturologists, who will present their new work and discuss the main topic.

This Year’s Fellowship Focus

The focus of the 2015 fellowship programme Book folks / Kumpanija od libra will rest mainly on comics and graphic novels in particular. We are welcoming all high professionals from the book world, of course, although we decided to build our fellowship programme on comics agents, editors, publishers and comics festival organizers.

All the participants will have the unique opportunity, against the prestigious backdrop of the Festival, to meet the Croatian book and comics world in the moment when many of our nation’s finest talents are gathered in one place. It is an excellent occasion for exchanging information, creating a network between local and foreign publishers, authors, translators and literary agents. Since Croatia has a long tradition of comic books and many of our authors are very active on the international comic book scene, we will present contemporary Croatian illustrators and graphic novel authors.

The programme is supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Croatia, as part of its literary translation support programme.
