The Book Fair(y)'s programme Transatlantic represents a first attempt at bringing together two continents - Europe and South America - and calls attention to contemporary Portugese, Spanish and Brazilian literature. Transatlantic opens up windows on literary works of the Old and New Worlds, and gives the Book Fair(y) the opportunity to experience the power of words spoken by people whose lives are marked by memory of burden, suffering and hope that informed their ancestors' journey.

The Book Fair(y) opens itself up, too, to those who still find travel challenging, to people who are motivated, if not by dreams of a better life, then by the desire to experience something entirely new or remove themselves from the staleness that is the globalized world's mainstream mentality in which open borders do not come with a guarantee that people will ever really feel close to each other.

Just like in the old days, but after colonialism and all the colonizations, ice-cold fortresses once again invite the fearless, in an attempt to bring closer together the seemingly incompatible: the belongings of those staying and the belongings of those arriving.
