Esad Ribić
Esad Ribić was born in 1972 in Zagreb, Croatia, where he graduated from the High School of Applied Arts and Design. Initially he pursued comic book and illustration and then moved on to animation at Zagreb Film. In the mid-1990s he made acquaintance with American comic book publishers, first Antarctic Press from Texas, then with large systems like Vertigo DC and Marvel, which was when his heroes got global visibility. He says that he most enjoys to portray “the physical properties of the human body and action scenes,” that fantasy is important because it allows things to be seen from unexpected angles and that a comic book should not be “decorative”: readers should be “included in the story, some sort of reality or, at least, relative reality. Today it is very popular to make things based on postmodern principles,” but comic book does not belong in galleries.
