Nikola Madžirov
Nikola Madžirov was born in 1973 in Strumica, Macedonia. A poet, essayist and translator. The author of an oeuvre of exceptional poetic strength. Adam Zagajewski described him as “an expressionist: filled with dense, energetic strokes as though he emerges from imagination and returns back the same moment, like nocturnal animals caught in the headlights,” and Tomaž Šalamun remarks that this oeuvre “in Macedonian poetry opens like a flower: he gave back space and peace to strength.” The American jazz musician Oliver Lake, an associate and arranger of music to Björk and Lou reed, and the Italian classical music composer Angelo Inglese composed music to his lyrics. The collection Premješten kamen was published in Croatian, translated by Borislav Pavlovski.
