Vittorio Giardino was born in 1946 in Bologna, Italy. He graduated in electrical engineering, but by the age of 30 he switched to comic books. When he presented his first hero Max Friedman, a former secret service agent coping in the complex 1930s, he sparked attention all over the world. Thematically diverse and stylistically legible, of clear lines and demanding structures, his stories are based on emotion: “When I develop a story, I always begin with emotions, never with a rational background. Building a plot is inevitable, but it comes later. The starting point is always somewhere in the unclear, it is an impulse to express.”
