Sa(n)jam knjige u Istri

Theme: 1914th

The 20th Book Fair(y) in Istria will be held December 4 14 2014, in the 101 year old Austro-Hungarian art-deco building Marine-Kasino.

In the year that marks the 100th anniversary of the beggining of the Great War, the jubilean 20th Book Fair(y) in Istria will be dedicated to the odious 1914. The most important names of the european cultural scene, contemporary authors, historians, artists and culturologists, some of them from the former countries of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, will discuss the year 1914 and its traces, reflections and consequences on our days, through more than 100 programs.

For the first time the Fair's theme directly focuses on the (middle) european and mediterranian Pula as a template for the creation of the programme of cultural, sociological, anthropological, urban and other studies about the city, which once was the biggest harbour of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

Another city will be in the focus of the programme – Sarajevo. The program will present the writers and intelectuals from Bosnia and Hercegovina who will express their critical and scientific view about the assasination attempt in Sarajevo through various panel discussions, round tables, lectures, promotions, presentations of magazines, books and anthologies.

The Fair will have a special genre focus: the comic.
